Pre-Production: Script

                     This is the script for Champion. This will be changed for the movie.

 AICE MEDIA STUDIES SCRIPT 

FADE IN: 

CHAMPION 

EXT: A local gym, it’s unassuming and not very colorful. 

After the death of his brother, Travis Johnson trains with “Dr” Mac Louis at a gym to avenge his brother, “Sugar” Joe Johnson, and become world champion of boxing. We begin by seeing Travis endlessly think about his late brother. 

ANNOUNCER 

(voice over) Another devastating blow by Big Ben Douglas, Sugar Joe Johnson is almost down for the count! 

TRAVIS JOHNSON 

(voice over) Why... why him... why did he have to die...? 

Travis Johnson punching a punching bag violently. 

MAC LOUIS 

 Travis! 2 more minutes and we’ll go outside to train. 

TRAVIS JOHNSON 

(voice over) Dang it, I wish I was stronger... It should have been me, I should have fought, not Joe... 

MAC LOUIS 

         Travis, you okay? 

ANNOUNCER 

He’s down for the count! Big Ben has defeated the Sugar champion and has taken the spot as champion of the world! 

MAC LOUIS 

           TRAVIS!

Fade in:  

 

Scene description: At school, Travis Johnson and Terry run into Ben Douglas, his brother’s killer. 

TRAVIS JOHNSON 

So how did you do on the test? 

 

TERRY 

Oh, I got a 50. 

 TRAVIS JOHNSON  

A 50?!?! 

Travis bumps into Ben Douglas 

  

BEN DOUGLAS 

You just as bad as your brother.  

Travis and Ben Douglas fight. 

 

Fade in: 

Scene description: After the fight, Travis meets Mac Louis for the first time. Mac offers to train Travis. 

MAC LOUIS 

Hey, I heard about the fight. 

TRAVIS JOHNSON  

Yeah, I lost. 

MAC LOUIS 

You shouldn’t talk like that 

TRAVIS JOHNSON 

Why? I’ll never be like my brother. 

MAC LOUIS 

Well if I can make your brother a champion, I can do it to you too. 

TRAVIS JOHNSON 

You trained my brother...?
